Neon has announced a fresh collaboration with director Matt Johnson on his next project, which will feature the Canadian investigative journalist who helped expose a drug smuggling ring. This partnership aims to bring together the talents of both producers and filmmakers, while also leveraging the global reach of the Cannes Film Festival. The story behind the film draws inspiration from a real-life event involving Vice Canada's editor recruiting drug mules for a global smuggling network, including out of the media giant’s offices. Meanwhile, producer Matthew Miller and filmmaker Matt Greyson will produce the film under Zapruder Films, in association with Rhombus Media, while Telefilm Canada will finance the feature. Johnson, known for his critically acclaimed work on BlackBerry and Operation Avalanche, will direct Tony, a Netflix sequel starring Dominic Sessa, alongside developing a Magic: The Gathering feature film. Wolfhard, who worked on Hell of a Summer and recently wrapped up on Stranger Things, is set to return to Neon for another project. This collaboration highlights the ongoing trend of international filmmaking and the growing influence of Canadian talent in global storytelling.
